Oak Alley Plantation – Kick Start My Art – Louisiana Wedding Photographer

On Monday, January 28th, Nicole and I woke up at 3 am and left beautiful Lake Tahoe. It was 16 degrees outside as we drove through the snow on our way to the airport. At 3:20 p.m., we landed in Dallas, Texas where the local temperature was a balmy 75 degrees. Then we jumped into Nicole’s car and drove about 8 hours to Vacherie, Louisiana…or, more specifically, Oak Alley Plantation. We made this trip to meet up with other photographers at Kick Start My Art, a workshop hosted by Mark Eric and Brandon O’Neal.

Nicole and I have been dying to shoot at Oak Alley, so this workshop was a no brainer. We stayed at a cottage on property (which we highly recommend!) and were walking the grounds at about 6:30 a.m. to do a morning session prior to the start of the workshop. Our hosts scheduled a few gracious models who were willing to wake up super early for the sunrise session! And let me give a big thanks to the makeup artists who woke up super early as well to provide the hair and makeup for all of our models! Check out their work at www.verdebridal.com! It was a great day of practicing, learning, and visiting with other photographers.  Several were Facebook friends who we were finally able to meet in person while others became new friends.

Today, we’re sharing a few of our favorite images from our wonderful day at Oak Alley!

Man we would LOVE to shoot a wedding at Oak Alley! It is a gorgeous location!!!

To all of our photographer friends, it was so great to finally meet all of you in person! And, to Mark and Brandon, it was great to see you guys again! Thanks for always being so generous with your knowledge and help! We can’t wait to work with you guys again!

Investing in Portraits

Good Monday morning! Today’s blog is all about investing in your portraits and why we think it’s important. As photographers, we’re always encouraging people to invest time and money into a photo session. Whether it’s wedding, engagement, maternity, newborn, family, anniversary, or just because pictures, we firmly believe that photographs are important because they capture you at that particular moment in your life. And let’s face it…life is short. Nicole and I don’t fall into the category “I’d rather be behind the lens than in front of it.” We actually practice what we preach and, on at least a yearly basis (if not more), we invest money in a portrait session! It’s not because we’re vain. It’s because we want those memories captured…and captured well. We enjoy looking back at our photos and seeing how much we’ve changed since we first met.

For the past three years right around our anniversary, Nicole and I have a portrait session where we have new pictures taken. And we LOVE it!!! Pictures from each session decorate the walls of our home and our office. Those pictures truly mean the world to us. (And it’s really important that you get prints or canvases of your photos rather than let them hide in a folder on your desktop for no one to see!) Not only do we get to enjoy looking at them on a daily basis, we get the fun of the session. Our anniversary pictures consist of a couple of hours dedicated to just us hugging, kissing, cuddling, and being us together. IT IS AWESOME!!! This particular year, we went above and beyond our normal investment to make sure we have pictures that no one else has! You see, this year, we did a destination portrait session (which we highly recommend)! Nicole and I traveled to Lake Tahoe and brought along “our” photographers, Chelsea and Mack of McGowan Images. What happened was some epic photos of our vacation that we will have forever. And because these yearly portraits mean so much to us, we are going to offer a little extra with all couple sessions booked this February. Details at the end!

I’ve never seen real snow and the idea for our portraits this year was to have pictures of us in the snow. Mission accomplished. Now I have photographs of that special memory. These first few images are of Nicole and I around the cabin we spent a few days in.

After taking photos around the cabin, it was time to put the beautful backdrop that is Lake Tahoe to good use!

(A big shout out and thank you to Chelsea and Mack from Mcgowan Images for all of these beautiful images!)

Pretty epic, right? We think destination sessions are great! And it doesn’t have to be something as big as a trip to Lake Tahoe, but even to Dallas, New Orleans, or the Gulf Coast! But, honestly, capturing a special time in your life can happen anywhere and be pretty epic. Travel certainly isn’t a requirement.

Now for the special offer I mentioned earlier…For all couple sessions (engagements/anniversary/just because we love each other sessions) booked this February, we are going to include a FREE 16×24 canvas of your choosing! This way you will have great pictures and an amazing canvas to display in your home! To book a session, shoot us an email by clicking Contact above or by sending us an email at bergphotographyblog@gmail.com!

Lake Tahoe

Nicole and I spent this past weekend having an amazing time at Lake Tahoe! We are going to be blogging about why we were there soon, but today is about sharing a few images we were able to capture while enjoying the scenery! It was freezing cold, covered in snow, and absolutely beautiful! Growing up in Louisiana, I’ve never seen “real” snow. Yes, every once in a while, we get enough to cover the ground, but that’s not real snow. So I asked Nicole if we could go to the mountains and see real snow. Nicole picked us out a beautiful cabin and off we went! The first few images you will see are beautiful snow covered mountains surrounding Lake Tahoe.

Our cabin had a roof covered in snow. And all around it? Just snow! More than once, I just stomped around outside and enjoyed sinking to my knees in the snow. On Saturday night, it started to snow pretty heavily and it was just perfect. I might have just laid down in the fresh snow and looked up once or twice!

Well I hope you enjoyed the pictures from Tahoe!  We’ll be sharing a few of our favorite images from a workshop we attended at Oak Alley very soon!

Brittnee – Shreveport/Bossier City Louisiana Photographers

This weekend, we met up with another local photographer, Erica Hayes, for a fun, creative shoot where we were able to learn from each other. She brought the model, and we brought the off camera lighting. We met up in downtown Shreveport because we knew there would be some cool locations to use. As we’ve mentioned before, we’re really digging the dramatic look we can achieve with off camera lighting. And, because it’s important to us to keep improving our photography skills, we thought a practice session just for us was a great idea! Here are some of our favorites…

First up is an image using natural light.

Using off camera lighting, we were able to achieve these…

We moved over a little from the first spot to practice getting a bright blue sky!

The next few were also shot using natural light…

Then, of course, we switched to off camera lighting for a more dramatic look!

With these last two images, we had some fun creating light trails in our pictures. No lights were added in post-processing. While we added a little color pop to these images, this is basically what it looked light straight out of the camera.

We’re really excited to continue growing our skills in this area. We’re even more excited to think about the awesome ways we can use these skills to create unique portrait sessions for seniors and unique bride and groom portraits! Brittnee, thanks for being a fabulous model! You are absolutely stunning! Erica, we always have a blast meeting up with you!

Evelyn – Bossier City, Louisiana Photographers

If you follow our blog regularly, then you already know our featured star’s brother and parents. Now its time to meet sweet Evelyn. Check out our favorites from her session…

The paintings in the picture below were all created by Evelyn’s “Aunt” Chelsea.

This quilt was also made by Chelsea! I kind of wanted to steal this one…

Jerrod and Jessica, thanks again for allowing us to photograph your sweet family! It’s always a pleasure!
