Walkabout: Czech Republic Edition

Good Tuesday morning!!! Nicole and I are very excited to share our vacation pictures with everyone today! And I’ll start with this statement, “no, we did not post every single picture!” In fact, we actually limited our pictures on this post. Well, kinda limited! On September 19th, we boarded a plane and crossed the pond on our way to Prague! We had our suitcases packed full and our camera bags in tow! After about 18-19 hours of world travel, we pulled into our hotel late Thursday night. The Art Deco Imperial Hotel was a beautiful place! Here are a couple of images of the outside of the building.

Curious about that blur in the picture? That is one of the many rail cars in Prague. The rail car system looked like a fantastic public transportation system! Below, you’ll see two pictures from the inside of the hotel. First, on the left is a device that confused us at first. We could not for the life of us figure out how to turn the lights on in our room! It turns out that you have to place your room key in this device to be able to turn on the lights or television! On the right is a picture from the library in the hotel. The entire inside of the hotel was decorated very nicely!

This next image is a picture of the street our hotel was on at dusk.

On our first day, Nicole and I, along with our friends Larrion and Sam, traveled to Prague Castle to see the sights. Aside from being a beautiful castle/church/entire area, the view from Prague Castle was amazing!!!

The next two images give you different view of Prague Castle and the surronding area. Seriously, this city is absolutely beautiful!

Another very popular monument in Prague is the Astrological Clock Tower. This is probably the most complicated clock in the world! When the clock strikes on an hour, the skeleton pulls a chain ringing a bell and then the clock gets to work! There was always a large crowd gathered to watch the clock each hour!

Prague wasn’t the only beautiful sight…there was also my lovely wife Nicole! How cute is she?!?!

Another must see in Prague is the adeptly named “Dancing House.” This building was designed by Frank Gehry to have the appearance as if they are dancing together! Some call it the “Fred and Ginger” house. The buildings really are super cool and made for some fun pictures!

After walking all around the city on our second day in town, we went to see La Boheme at the National Theatre Opera! We had some pretty killer seats! Our own private balcony booth!

After we had our fill of La Boheme, we walked around the area near the Opera house called Wenceslas Square.

On Sunday morning, Nicole and I ventured outside of the city of Prague to Chesky Krumlov, a medieval town with a castle located about two hours outside of Prague. We hired a private tour guide to take us there, and he was amazing! Nicole and I really enjoyed learning the history of Prague and talking with someone who lived through a communist regime.  (Czech Republic became a democracy again in the early 1990s.)

On Monday morning, we took another excursion outside of Prague to Kutna Hora. We were joined on this side trip by Larrion, Sam, and Kammi! We all loaded up in a van driven by our guide and had a blast! Kutna Hora is just another beautiful town with an interesting history!  Kutna Hora was first and foremost known for its silver mining.

But Kutna Hora is more than just a beautiful city with a history of silver mining. You see it has one of the most…hmm, how do I say it…interesting/crazy/unimaginable/awesome/creepy/cool churches in the world. When you pull up to the church all you see is a small church with a surrounding cemetery. But when you step onto the grounds this is what you see next…

THE BONE CHURCH! (I couldn’t resist giving that picture a funky edit!) Some 40,000-70,000 individuals are said to have bones decorating this church.
This next image is of the Bone Church chandelier. It has at least one of each bone of the human body incorporated into it. To capture this picture, I actually laid on my back in the middle of the Bone Church. It wasn’t until we were in the van on the way back that I was told that what I laid down on was a crypt!!! NO ONE TOLD ME!!! (SHUDDERS!)

Now Nicole and I have decided to refer to Prague as “the new Paris!” In fact, Prague is for lovers! They even have a lover’s bridge where couples show their unending love by placing a lock onto the bridge. And OF COURSE, we did it, too!!!
A stone’s throw away from lover’s bridge is the Lennon wall. This wall used to have a mural of the Beatles’ John Lennon, but it has since been covered by graffiti showcasing John Lennon-inspired quotes and pieces of lyrics from Beatles’ songs! Couples also write their names and dates on this wall. We thought it made for some amazing images!

And, to end the blog, here are some nighttime pictures of Prague, including a kissy pic of Nicole and I. We started the nighttime kissy pic tradition in Sydney, Australia, and we continued it in Prague with the Charles Bridge as the backdrop!

For the final blog image, a pano of four images that I put together of the Charles Bridge as seen from a tiny island in the Vltava River. We may have already ordered a canvas of this image!

Thanks for stopping by and checking out our vacation images! Check back on Thursday because we’ll be sharing pictures of an old friend who is turning two years old!

Ok. I don’t think we can be friends anymore. My seething bubbling jealousy over your trip and these INCREDIBLE pictures are just going to be too much to get over.
I love you guys. And the picture of Nicole on the bench. And the picture of Kevin dipping Nicole in front of the Dancing House. And that bone church. And and and.ReplyCancel

You guys… Seriously. I have to agree with the wife that the pic of Nicole on the bench is awesome, but I just wanted to go through and comment on EVERY SINGLE IMAGE. Highlights for me: Bone church (duh), dancing house, the clock, and the random door (32a). You guys rock my socks. If this trip was HALF as cool as you made it look, I’m way jealous!ReplyCancel

Mike + Amy – Ruston, LA Wedding Photography

Have you ever met a couple where just moments after meeting them you feel like you’ve known each other forever? Or been at a party and there is just the one couple that everyone loves and crowds around? Well, that couple is Mike and Amy. Those two are flat out adorable! They were laughing with each other the entire time, and they kept us laughing right along with them! Amy has what Nicole calls an “infectious laugh.” I don’t think that either one of them went more than a minute without laughing!

Mike and Amy are both enlisted in the United States Army. Nicole and I could not be any more proud to be their wedding photographers! Originally, we were set to shoot their engagement session at Camp Beauregard, but, due to Hurricane Isaac, Amy and Mike were in the Ruston area. So, instead, we met up at the Germantown Colony Museum in Minden, Louisiana, on Monday evening. (And a big thank you to Amanda from Germantown Museum for opening up the museum and hanging out late on a Monday!)

Love this next image! These two are just so perfect together!

Here is a great example of Amy’s big beautiful smile!

Amy and Mike, it was so great finally getting to meet you face-to-face! We cannot wait for your wedding day! We know it’s going to be a blast!

Jacob – Shreveport Senior Photography

Today, we’re sharing our favorites from Jacob’s senior session! Jacob is a senior at Northwood High School here in Shreveport, LA and is one of Berg Photography’s 2013 senior reps. We met Jacob and his mother, Dawn, in downtown Shreveport this past Sunday. His mother was really looking forward to Jacob having his pictures taken, and Jacob was a good sport the whole time! You can certainly tell Jacob has a great relationship with his mom!

Nicole thinks that Jacob looks similar to Ryan Gosling in this next image!

Dawn really liked this art sculpture, so we made sure to grab a shot of Jacob there!

Jacob was a wonderful model for the entire photo shoot, but he really shined when he had his basketball in his hand. Jacob is a huge basketball fan, and we can attest to the fact that he can spin that ball on his finger like a pro!

Jacob and I decided this next image should be made into an ad for Spalding!

As the sun set, we grabbed a skyline picture before ending the session.

Jacob, thanks for coming out and being such a great sport! We hope you have a great senior year!

Blogstalkers, make sure to check back Thursday to see photos from Mike and Amy’s engagement session!

What’s on our TV…

Good morning! Things have been a bit quiet around the blog lately, but that’s about to end! We have several sessions coming up, so the blog will soon be loaded with awesome pictures!

In the meantime, we thought we’d honor the month of September and what it brings to our household…a new television season! Today, we’re sharing a few of our favorite shows!

Dexter
Yep. We love us some Dexter. We jumped on the Dexter bandwagon a little late, but we quickly caught up in time for last season.  We are once again ready to switch HBO over to Showtime to catch Dexter’s new season!

Downton Abbey
This show is on Nicole’s must-watch-list! In fact, Nicole just finished catching up via DVD so she would be ready for the third season. While the new season doesn’t air until January 2013, Nicole isn’t one to “savor” her tv shows (or her reading material). Nope, she watches them all back-to-back and then counts the days until the new season. My sister, Kennie, actually brought this show to Nicole’s attention. While it wasn’t my cup of tea, it’s apparently very popular!

Sherlock
This series was recommended to us very highly by my brother, Matthew. He actually insisted that we watch this show. After seeing my sister post on his facebook page that she was sold after the first five minutes, we scrambled to turn on Netflix to watch the first episode! Turns out my sister was right…we were hooked after about 5 minutes! Forty-five minutes into the show, we were expecting a conclusion or at least a cliffhanger.  Happily, we discovered we had another 45 minutes to go! Sherlock is a three episode season, but each episode is about an hour and a half of compelling non-stop awesomeness! After staying up ’til about 3am finishing season 1, we ordered season 2 on DVD. We just finished season 2, and now I have no idea how we’ll be able to make it until Fall 2013 for the third season! I guess we’ll just have to rewatch seasons 1 and 2!  Season 2’s episode 1 is the stand out episode of the two seasons, but each episode is really a masterpiece. If you haven’t yet, you need to become “Sherlocked!”

Smash
This show is a favorite of ours because we enjoy musicals. Add to the fact that Katherine McPhee is the star and I’m more than happy to tune in! It’s a fun show full of talented actors and actresses performing what would in real life probably be an amazing Broadway Musical!  (Yes, I’m a dude.  Yes, I am openly admitting I love musicals.  And, yes, my wife loves that about me!)

The Walking Dead
Another Matthew recommendation. This show is based on a graphic novel depicting the zombie apocalypse, and it is AMAZING! It’s a nonstop, edge-of-your-seat kind of show.  It depicts what I envision a real zombie apocalypse would entail! The characters are never safe and, just when it seems like everything is ok, BAM! Zombie attack! Again, not a show for everyone as make-up artists do an amazing job creating some horrific-looking zombies, but, for those of you who aren’t too sheepish, you should check this show out! Nicole and I just finished season two (another DVD marathon over two nights), and we are super stoked for season 3 starting this October on AMC!

Franklin and Bash
You loved him as Zach Morris, now love him as Peter Bash. Alongside Breckin Meyer, Mark Paul Gosselaar stars as Peter Bash who is law partners with his lifelong best friend, Jared Franklin. These two guys are basically who every attorney wishes they could be! Never scared of being held in contempt of court, they bring excitement and adventure to every case they take to trial! Oh, and, after a hard day at the office, they celebrate with a margarita party at their house! It’s a great “buddy” comedy that’s tons of fun! In fact, it’s my favorite show on television!  Unfortunately, this is a summer series and just ended it’s season.  Reruns will tide us over until next summer.

New Girl
Nicole has best described this show as “a little bit of happy.” It’s just a fun show that we find hysterical! Several times over the past season while watching the show, we’d see facebook blow up with quotes from the show before it had ended for the night. If you didn’t see season one, you don’t know what you are missing! Tune in and enjoy!

Once Upon A Time
Of course, we’ve already mentioned once before on the blog that we LOVE Once Upon A Time! The new season is sure to captivate us just as much as the first season!

Well that’s just a few of our favorite shows!  Feel free to comment below with your favorites or what you are looking forward to this season!  And make sure to stop by the blog next week as well have lots to share!

The pics are stunning! You guys are impressive in how quickly you shot the session with a 7 year old that doesn’t like to stand still :).

Leslie is so lucky to have you both. This was her very fist photo sesion and she felt like a princess.

We just can’t stay away from you guys. She is already asking about the Disney shoot.

    You both ROCK!ReplyCancel
